The reason why is because of the overwhelming amount of evidence.
There is so much evidence that it has taken me years to examine what has cemented my own convictions."

Atheists and JWs are on the same footing!
by exWTslave inatheists believe that god should stop the large-scale injustice on earth; if he does'nt, then he does not exist.
jws believe that god will intervene sometime in the last days!.
interestingly, both throw themselves on their own expectation of soemthing god should or will do, yet in fact something god does not have to do.

"when people stop believing in the existence of God, automatically their humaneness disappear."..and ExwtSlave also said..
"Conversely, No belief in God, means there is deep sadness within arising from having no real purpose in life. That sadness gives him pain. This pain will be transmitted to the people around him knowingly or unknowingly. Can't help. That is the inevitable outcome of having no belief in the existence of God."

"There are Atheists in foxholes
Atheists in hurricanes
There are Atheists in all the roles
Denied by your refrains
Atheists are your fellow citizens
People who love and laugh and cry
Atheists are your relatives and friends
Don't insult them with a lie
Atheists in many foxholes served
And some have had to die
Give Atheists the thanks deserved
Don't dismiss them with a lie
Atheists are all around you
They work, they help, they care
And no matter what you think is true
Atheists are everywhere
And no matter what you think is true
They do not want your prayer"

God is love, but if you dont love him back he will slaughter you!
by BU2B inthis was one of the things that first got me thinking.
i noticed how in books like "draw close to jehovah" they paint god as a loving, warm, just god who does not desire any to die.
i could not love him at all, let alone with my whole heart.

I'm an atheist.
It can be a long, hard and scary road, but if you continue to examine evidence for a God, with the same degree of critical thinking you applied to recognising that the Watchtowers claims for having 'The Truth' were false, the result seems inevitable to me.
Why worship a being you cannot fully believe even exists, and even if it did exist, whose morals you do not agree with?
Even the heavily sanitised Jesus of popular Christianity may make people feel better to worship than the Jehovah/YHWH of the Bible, but is there any more reason to believe in something lacking in proof, just because it gives a false sense of security?
If so, the next time I'm in a life-or-death situation, I'll follow Homer Simpsons example:
"I'm normally not a praying man, but if you're up there, please save me Superman!" -

Why is the world full of ATHEISTS?
by exWTslave inbible describes atheism as a condition of the heart and is all about seeking what is ephemeral, not acting with insight.
(psalm 14:1, 2) thus it rightly says the whole world is lying in the attraction of what is ephemeral.
(wicked one is not a correct translation.1 john 5:19) thus even believers who pray to god (for material blessings) are actually atheists as they are not trying to be poor in spirit.

Here's some interesting info on false memories and past regression therapy..
" Jean Piaget, the great child psychologist, claimed that his earliest memory was of nearly being kidnapped at the age of 2. He remembered details such as sitting in his baby carriage, watching the nurse defend herself against the kidnapper, scratches on the nurse's face, and a police officer with a short cloak and a white baton chasing the kidnapper away. The story was reinforced by the nurse and the family and others who had heard the story. Piaget was convinced that he remembered the event.
However, it never happened. Thirteen years after the alleged kidnapping attempt, Piaget's former nurse wrote to his parents to confess that she had made up the entire story. Piaget later wrote: "I therefore must have heard, as a child, the account of this story...and projected it into the past in the form of a visual memory, which was a memory of a memory, but false" (Tavris).
Remembering being kidnapped when you were an infant (under the age of three) is a false memory, almost by definition. The left inferior prefrontal lobe is undeveloped in infants, but is required for long-term memory. The elaborate encoding required for classifying and remembering such an event cannot occur in the infant's brain. "
...
" Furthermore, the data of dreams is generally ambiguous. Hypnosis and other techniques that ply upon a person’s suggestibility must be used with great caution lest one create memories by suggestion rather than pry them loose by careful questioning.
Furthermore, memories are often mixed; some parts are accurate and some are not. "
...
" A woman might have consciously repressed childhood sexual abuse by a neighbor or relative. Some experience in adulthood may serve as a retrieval cue and she remembers the abuse. This disturbs her and disturbs her dreams. She has nightmares, but now it is her father or grandfather or priest who is abusing her. She enters RMT and within a few months she recalls vividly how her father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, priest, etc., not only sexually abused her but engaged in horrific satanic rituals involving human sacrifices and cannibalism...The patient's memories are real and horrible, even if false. "

...
" Past life regression (PLR) is the alleged journeying into one's past lives while hypnotized. While it is true that many patients recall past lives, it is highly probable that their memories are false memories. The memories are from experiences in this life, pure products of the imagination, intentional or unintentional suggestions from the hypnotist, or confabulations. "
...
" The practice is given undeserved credibility because of the credentials of some of its leading advocates, e.g., Brian L. Weiss, M.D., who is a graduate of Columbia University and Yale Medical School and Chairman Emeritus of Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami. There are no medical internships in PLR therapy, nor does being a medical doctor grant one special authority in metaphysics, the occult or the supernatural. "
...
" Psychologist Robert Baker demonstrated that belief in reincarnation is the greatest predictor of whether a subject would have a past-life memory while under past life regression hypnotherapy. Furthermore, Baker demonstrated that the subject's expectations significantly affect the past-life regressive session.
He divided a group of 60 students into three groups.
He told the first group that they were about to experience an exciting new therapy that could help them uncover their past lives. Eighty-five per cent in this group were successful in "remembering" a past life.
He told the second group that they were to learn about a therapy which may or may not work to engender past-life memories. In this group, the success rate was 60%.
He told the third group that the therapy was crazy and that normal people generally do not experience a past life. Only 10% of this group had a past-life "memory." "

Vanderhoven said: "How do you know for certain that Matthew and Mark (apostles of the Lamb) and Luke the doctor, friend of both Paul and Theophilus, were not the authors of the gospels attributed to them?"
The following question is not rhetorical: How do YOU know that any of the people who authored those 'gospels' were even named Matthew, Mark or Luke, let alone loyal apostles or followers of a literal miracle-working Jesus Christ? Seriously, how?
There is no clear evidence that they were anything other than anonymous writers who wrote hearsay about a man called Jesus (who they don't even claim to have met personally and may have been 100% fictional), years after the time he was meant to have been alive anyway.

Vanderhoven also said:
"Phizzy, So you have concluded that the authors made up the gospels. For what reason/s? I have concluded that they are authentic. Why do you think most of the apostles went to their death preaching a lie they concocted?"
It would seem to me that without any evidence of these 'apostles of Jesus' having written the story originally (rather than the anonymous author simply copying and passing on stories that others had made up), and without any evidence that the unnamed authors of these writings later died because of believing in the story, your reasoning seems circular and fallacious. -

I Don't Think The Witnesses Really Care If You Can Explain Doctrine As Long As You Accept Them!
by minimus ingone are the days of getting into discussions about their beliefs.
doing major research to prove a position or watchtower doctrine is a thing of the past.
all they want from you is to surrender and accept everything they say as undeniable truth.. do you agree?.

You're kidding, aren't you? They have a history of not even caring if you AGREE with the doctrine once you understand it...

Demon attacks on JW in past, where'd they go?
by thedepressedsoul inin the 80's and 90's (maybe even earlier) i remember hearing lots of witnesses talk about "demon attacks".
whether it was someone studying the bible who then started having strange things happen in their house to people bringing stuff home from yard sales and getting personal attacks and horrible dreams resulting in them dystroying stuff they brought home or getting rid of it.. .
i also remember hearing a sister say she had to pray in a home with a study because the study started to get attacked.

Great thread at the end of this post. Here are some Smurfy highlights: ;)
" When I was little, I heard a lot about the smurfs. One story was when a babysitter brought smurfs over for a little witness kid to play with and when the parents came home, the smurfs were dancing on the bed and there was a newspaper levitating. So scary!!! "
...
" I remember a story running rampant when I was in my pre-teenage years that went a little something like this:
Word on the street was that a young child went to the circuit assembly with his parents. The child brought a little stuffed toy with him. However, this wasn't just any cute cuddly stuffed toy. This was one of those little blue demons that worldy people call Smurfs. Anyways, the stuffed little Smurf, got up in the middle of the assembly and walked out the door. Apparently the demon inside the stuffed toy could no longer take the "light" and "truth" inside the assembly hall and had to get out with the quickness. "
...
"Hmmmm....the version I heard was that it took place at akingdom halland it was a teenage girl w/ a smurf in her purse. The smurf walked out of the purse during the opening song, and went down the aisle and out the door, yelling the whole time, ''I can't take this $hit!''
...
"Anyway, the homeowner (a Christian we found out later) asked us what was so funny so we told her the whole story of having been witnesses and being scared of smurfs.
She told us that she new a Mormon girl and that too were afraid of smurfs."
